Improving Lives
Child Care
Through its Child Care work to improve lives, The Duke Endowment places value on
proven programs and strategies. As we work to address persistent social problems,
expand individual opportunity, and provide essential support, we value established
approaches with clear records of success and replicable models.
Before applying applicants must contact Rhett Mabry or Phil Redmond at 704.376.0291.
The Duke Endowment recognizes the documented value of several approaches designed
to improve the lives of vulnerable children:
- Families and Schools Together (FAST)
- Multisystemic Therapy (MST)
- Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)
- Strengthening Families
- The Incredible Years
- Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)
Other proven approaches will be considered as well.
We are especially interested in efforts that leverage results: through duplicating,
expanding or applying proven programs. We weigh the true costs and relative benefits
of potential investments, and make funding decisions based on anticipated outcomes.
Grant requests in this application category must meet one of the following criteria:
1. Effective Practices: Established, documented, positive results.
Available evidence of multiple, randomized control trials; replication in a real-world
setting.
Required Level of Supporting Evidence
- Two or more randomized clinical trials
- Sustained effect at least one year beyond the end of treatment
2. Promising Practices: At least one control or comparison study;
no evidence suggesting that the intervention presents a greater likelihood of risk
than benefit.
Required Level of Supporting Evidence
- Controlled or comparison studies without randomization
